This cartridge is loaded with a 200 grain hard cast bullet. Don’t mistake it for a conventional lead bullet. The hard cast does contain lead, but it is heavily alloyed with other metals, such as antimony, and substantially harder because of it. The hard cast is incapable of deformation/expansion, and it reliably retains virtually 100% of its weight as it smashes through dense bone and tough tissue.
In other words, the hard cast bullet expends practically all of its energy gouging the deepest possible wound column into its target. That’s great if you’re squaring off against a tough beast, as a JHP’s terminal expansion could cause it to penetrate too little to reach the brute’s heart or other “off switch” organ. Just take care that this round’s bullet is basically certain to pass clean through a human-sized threat, which could result in over-penetration that threatens innocent bystanders.
Corbon’s tough-as-nails hard cast projectile is seated in a fresh brass case, and backed by the primer and powder it needs to attain 1,150 fps muzzle velocity out of a 6” barrel. This ammo would make a fine choice for hunting non-aggressive medium game as well – especially if you’re a lever-action rifle kind of guy.
