This cartridge is loaded with the Controlled Expansion jacketed hollow point: 158 grains of surly lead and copper that are specially engineered to inflict the wide and deep wound channel that neutralizes the threat pronto. Doubletap recommends it for hiking, hunting and camping – and they don’t mean to imply that it is effective against forest frogs.
This cartridge’s specially formulated propellant emits very little flash out of a barrel as short as 4”. Expect a 1,400 fps muzzle velocity out of a Ruger GP-100 with 4” barrel, or a 1,245 fps muzzle velocity out of a 1-7/8” barrel. Doubletap recorded the round’s 1,540 fps muzzle velocity out of a S&W 686’s 6” barrel.
