This 338 Winchester Magnum cartridge lets a sharpshooter put all of their skill to work. Its 230 grain ELD-X bullet features the Heat Shield tip, which Hornady developed upon using Doppler radar to confirm that aerodynamic heating often deforms conventional polymer tips. The ELD-X’s unchanging meplat gives way to a sleek secant ogive profile Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket, with a boat tail to minimize in-flight drag. Its 0.616 G1 BC means this bullet follows a flat, wind-resistant trajectory – and carries at least 1,500 ft lbs of elk-killing energy up until 830 yards.
The ELD-X is designed to deliver effective terminal ballistics for hunting at any practical range. When the ELD-X strikes game at ranges beyond 400 yards its Heat Shield tip drives massive outward expansion accompanied by up to 90 percent weight retention. Following higher velocity impact the bullet’s high InterLock ring keeps its core and thick jacket mechanically bound together to promote up to 60 percent weight retention. A deep wound channel either way!
This round’s match accurate, high stopping power bullet is propellant by consistently loaded clean-burning powder to ensure consistent ballistics regardless of temperature or other atmospheric variables. Throw in a match grade primer and select brass case and you’ve got your new best friend no matter the kind of deer you’re going after.
