The 338 Lapua Magnum has always been a match shooter’s rifle cartridge, although it has often been fired to great effect by elite military snipers as well. We’re going to assume you’re the kind of shooter who’s more interested in winning trophies. Elite military snipers should never have to order their own ammo.

This round’s stellar accuracy primarily comes from its 250 grain MatchKing. Every atom of a MatchKing is in just the right place. Its thin jacket adheres to a strict standard for concentricity, and its core is form-fitted. Its weight isn’t allowed to vary by more or less than 0.3 grains. It has an extremely narrow meplat for an HPBT, and its sleek base ends in a boat tail.

This round’s heavy, ballistically efficient bullet has a B.C. of 0.596 (G7 0.299). Even if you were aiming for the coveted 1,000 yard target, you wouldn’t have to arc your trajectory by more than 100”. If you were keeping things closer to home at 500 yards, that bullet rise would remain nearer to 17”. In any event this round’s wind resistant bullet shouldn’t become subsonic until around 1,530 yards!

Winchester carefully loads this ammo with their best brass cases, highly sensitive match grade Boxer primers, and uniform charges of clean burning propellant. They advise a faster twist barrel for this ammo: 1:7 to 1:9.
