A: Thanks for reaching out Mike! This excerpt from the LWCRI REPR MK II manual provides a good starting point: "Factory accuracy and function testing is done with a variety of ammunition, but LWRC highly recommends the use of Federal XM80 149gr ball for most shooting purposes. For accuracy shooting, heavier
rounds like Federal 168gr or 175gr GMM are proven performers." We have Federal 7.62x51 XM80 149gr ball ammo in stock at this very moment: https://www.luckygunner.com/federal-308-win-ammo-20-rounds-of-149-grain-fmj-ammunition. We also have Federal's 168gr Gold Medal MatchKing (GMM) ammo in stock by the box and by the case: https://www.luckygunner.com/federal-308-win-ammo-for-sale-308168hpbtsmkfed-20; https://www.luckygunner.com/308-168-gr-hp-bt-federal-premium-sierra-match-king-200-rounds. Naturally, neither of these rounds are loaded with hunting bullets, althoguh I do expect you would be satisfied with their accuracy over the distances you're aiming within.

A: Hi Jon! The MatchKing certainly could neutralize a threat, but it isn't recommended for self-defense applications. Its thin copper jacket translates to poorer capacity for penetration, and its inability to undergo terminal expansion means that it inflicts a less injurious wound channel. Naturally, the 308 Win's raw power would present a serious problem for the threat. All the same, a soft point or other expanding bullet would be preferrable for home defense. Federal Premium product # GM308M is also loaded with a 168 grain (non-tipped) MatchKing. A Tipped MatchKing is also available, although it too is not designed for self-defense. If you're specifically looking for defensive ammo, then I would highly recommend the Speer Gold Dot: https://www.luckygunner.com/308-168-grain-gold-dot-sp-speer-le-20-rounds

A: Thanks for reaching out John! I can't fairly promise any kind of performance out of a rifle I haven't personally tested out. That said, Federal Premium is an excellent American manufacturer and this cartridge loaded with the Sierra MatchKing HPBT. The MatchKing has been fired to win more target competitions than all other manufactures' bullets combined. This round has a 0.462 G1 BC (0.224 G7), and I'd only guarantee higher a higher ballistic coefficient than that by switching to a heavier bullet. I haven't got ballistic data for the IMI ammo you've already fired or I'd do a comparison. What I can say is that if a man is prioritizing precision, I'd always recommend him the MatchKing.

A: Hi Matthew. Thanks for reaching out to us at LuckyGunner.com. While the SOCOM is a great rifle, and one of the best handling battle rifles, it is not a match grade rifle and as such, it cannot make the GMM ammo perform at its best. . It is not designed for precision accuracy. You can shoot the Federal rounds out of the rifle, but I believe you will get a much more economical performance and great combat accuracy with a less expensive option. Give me a shout and let's pick you a great round that will work perfectly in your SOCOM 16.
