Superformance series ammunition is engineered to deliver increased muzzle velocity without negative side effects. As such this round’s 165 grain bullet should exhibit a muzzle velocity up to 200 fps faster than usual – without producing added recoil, chamber pressure, fouling, muzzle blast or temperature sensitivity in return.
The Super Shock Tip (SST) bullet makes this a real deer load. Its low-drag secant ogive profile, sharp polymer tip and boat tail give the SST a 0.447 G1 ballistic coefficient. As such it should retain at least 1,500 ft lbs of energy until 429 yards and 1,000 ft lbs of energy until 660 yards. It should also remain supersonic until 1,113 yards.
The SST’s tip wedges into its solid lead core on impact and immediately forces deleterious terminal expansion. But because its jacket is mechanically locked to its core in two places – the toothed cannelure and the Interlock ring further down the shank – the SST reliably retains the weight it needs to plunge all the way to the vital organs.
Brass-cased and reloadable, Hornady makes some of world’s finest ammo in the heart of Nebraska. Flat-shooting ammo is quite popular in Nebraska for reasons that don’t beg explanation!
