Ballistic info: 150 grain bullet; 2,789 fps muzzle velocity (23.5” test barrel); 0.290 G1 BC; 2,041 ft lbs striking energy at 100 yds; -3.7” drop 100 yds downrange of 100-yd zero. The SPCE bullet itself: lead core and CuZn 10 (i.e. brass) jacket.
The soft point bullet works simply: impact crushes the soft lead nose, then peels back the jacket to produce hog-killing expansion. That just leaves the question: what in the Sam Hill is a “cutting edge?” Basically, the base of the SPCE is shaped like a wadcutter, complete with a shoulder. But instead of a flat nose, the SPCE transitions into a more conventional spitzer profile. The performance advantage comes from the shoulder, which “cuts” a large, clean hole into the quarry on contact. This inflicts greater harm than a sweeping, softly curved spitzer-only bullet could manage. Very clever! And reloadable, too.
