This is a subsonic cartridge, as indicated by its 200 grain bullet. Such a heavy projectile ought to only pop out at a velocity of 1,060 fps (apologies; Winchester has not shared the length of the test barrel they used to record that muzzle velocity). That’s about 85 fps slower than the speed of sound, which means (A) a quieter report, (B) optimal performance for a suppressor, and (C) the superior accuracy that goes hand-in-hand with a bullet which avoids transonic destabilization (basically, a bullet wobbles when its speed transitions from supersonic to subsonic; a subsonic-only bullet cannot encounter this issue).
The open tip bullet is not intended for hunting or defense! It’s not incapable of these applications, of course, although its inability to let out terminal expansion does make it less than ideal for them. The open tip is designed for accuracy, which it promotes via its fully jacketed base and form-fitted lead core (which was injected through the meplat’s opening while it was still liquid).
