We’re sure this 300 AAC Blackout ammo by Winchester could mash any varmint animal’s potatoes. We’re sure it could do an effective job for home defense if it were aimed competently, too. But despite what its bullet’s appearance might suggest, this round isn’t designed for taking aim at huntable things or threats. It’s built for the range, dude!

This round’s flat base bullet is an open tip, or OT. The little orifice in its jacket’s tip is not there to provide terminal expansion. Its only purpose was already fulfilled at the factory, where it allowed Winchester to pour liquid lead into the thin and evenly thick jacket. When the lead hardened, it became a highly balanced core – hence the reason for the OT’s high rotational stability and accuracy.

As any 300 BO enthusiast already knows, a 125 grain bullet cannot be subsonic. If the bullet hits its posted muzzle velocity of 2,185 fps, then its 0.161 G1 ballistic coefficient ought to keep it cooking along until it transitions to subsonic at around 280 yards.

USA Ready series ammo is manufactured in the USA, of course, where it receives the reloadable brass cases and match grade primers it needs to make handloaders and marksmen both happy.
