This 300 AAC Blackout cartridge by Underwood is a great pick for any varminter, and features the same 110 grain bullet that has made Nosler’s Varmageddon line of ammunition so popular among hunters who go after game with buck teeth or long canines.

With its sharp metallic black polymer tip and flat base, this round’s streamlined bullet boasts a 0.290 ballistic coefficient. It holds a tight trajectory as it rises by no more than 10” on its course to a 300 yard target, and it doesn’t become subsonic until well past 500 yards. Such a bullet retains nearly 640 ft lbs of energy at 300 yards, and we’d hate to see the kind of coyote that could be immune to so powerful a jab.

The Varmageddon bullet’s polymer tip sits on an ultra thin jacket mouth and is anchored in the underlying lead core. It utterly disrupts both immediately following impact, reliably converting all of its kinetic energy into explosive fragmentation. Its extreme terminal performance should also suit this bullet very well for personal protection, as its energy is very nearly sufficient for humane elk hunting at very close range!

Underwood’s propellant is treated to reduce muzzle flash, great if you’d ever go hunting at dusk or nighttime. Their new brass case is nickel plated as well, enhancing its ability to quickly weave in and out of any rifle’s chamber. And thanks to the Ducta Bright 7a nickel plating process, the case’s nickel coating resists cracking that would have made it unsuitable for subsequent handloading.
