Whenever you write about a 30-06 Springfield hunting cartridge with a really neat bullet, it’s hard not to make it sound like it’s some magic wand that kills deer. Lest there be any doubt, you still gotta aim the Controlled Chaos. But once you have, it sure does take care of the rest.
Underwood loads this round with the 152 grain Controlled Chaos solid copper hollow point projectile, which is made in Texas by Lehigh Defense. It’s an aerodynamic bullet: CNC machined from solid copper, so it is at once sleek and balanced. You can do your best shooting with one. You can also do it in states where lead bullets are banned, because the Controlled Chaos ain’t got no lead.
The Controlled Chaos delivers truly remarkable terminal ballistics (i.e. the stuff that happens after impact). The front section of the bullet splits apart into multiple petals, each of which breaks off in a different direction. Big energy transfer; big wound cavity. The rear section continues penetrating in a straight path, and can easily pass through the quarry.
You don’t see nickel-plated brass on 30-06 all that often. It’s good that it’s reloadable, because that means you can appreciate its smooth-cycling performance multiple times. Underwood also loads 30-06 with low-flash propellant, which is intended to keep the hunter unblinded while they’re hunting at night.
