This 30-06 ammo was made by Aguila – a Mexican operation that was founded in collaboration with none other than Remington during the early 1960s. Although best known for their rimfire ammo, Aguila’s massive state-of-the-art production facility deals in trustworthy centerfire rounds as well. New brass cases. Noncorrosive Boxer primers. Powder formulated to burn completely by the time the bullet pops out of the muzzle. Good stuff.
This round’s bullet is a little too light for elk, which isn’t to insist that no one could KO a Roosevelt with 150 grains. We’re just going by convention here. Aguila has not shared this round’s ballistic data as of the time of writing, although a G1 BC of 0.310 is a reasonable guess. By that estimate, we’d say this round would reach 200 yards with around 1,800 ft lbs of energy and subsequently drop -8.3” at 300.
Aguila’s nonmagnetic soft point is designed to function as normal: sufficiently deep penetration to access a medium quarry’s ticker, accompanied by the tumbling and mushrooming which maximize trauma. It’s a simple hunting bullet, albeit indisputably ineffective.
