The ELD-X features a special polymer tip: the Heat Shield. Once Hornady used Doppler radar to confirm that aerodynamic friction is hot enough to deform regular tips, they formulated a polymer that is wholly immune to air friction. The result is a tip that stays sharp and aerodynamic under all circumstances.
The Heat Shield doesn’t do all of the work. This round’s 90 grain projectile also showcases Hornady’s hyper-concentric Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket, as well as a secant ogive profile which gracefully transitions to a boat tail. Federal puts the bullet’s G1 BC at 0.409, which translates to -6.1” drop at 300 yards after a 200-yard zero.
The ELD-X is built for hunting at all ranges. Within 400 yards, its thick shank and InterLock ring secure at least 50% weight retention. Outside of 400 yards, weight retention increases to 85-90%. But whichever range you catch your trophy at, you can rest assured the ELD-X will supply the terminal expansion requisite for a cavernous, devastating wound channel.
This ammo is loaded in Minnesota with nickel-plated cases. Always a welcome touch, they promote smoother feeding and extraction in addition to protecting the underlying brass against corrosion. Reloadable!
