This 223 Rem cartridge by Red Mountain Arsenal of Roswell, NM is loaded with Berger’s 77 grain Open Tip Match Tactical. The OTM Tactical is not designed to carry out terminal expansion within soft tissue. Rather, it is optimized for miliary and law enforcement snipers who must neutralize threats at long range.

The OTM Tactical features Berger’s J4 Precision Jacket. It is drawn to such exacting tolerances that it only exhibits a total indicated runout of +/-0.0001. So balanced a jacket is perfectly complemented by its form-fitted lead core, gently tapering precision boat tail, and narrow hollow point meplat. The J4 Precision Jacket has a tangent ogive profile, which promotes exact alignment with the barrel’s rifling when the bullet is chambered.

This round’s bullet is very heavy to carry superior momentum at distances beyond 600 yards. Your shot will benefit from immensely improved resistance to wind drift, but you’ll want a barrel twist no slower than 1:8 to fully stabilize so substantial a bullet.

Red Mountain Arsenal produces a lot of precision ammo for professional snipers, and they load premium components to tight specs to guarantee reliable, accurate performance. The manufacturer has not yet reported this ammo’s muzzle velocity, although Berger records their .22 caliber 77 grain OTM Tactical’s G1 BC at 0.374 (G7 0.192).
