This round is armed with a 75 grain bullet – extra heavy, and therefore best suited for a barrel with a 1:7 twist or faster, it shrugs off cross winds while retaining huge momentum downrange. The Gold Dot’s molecularly bonded jacket is also extremely concentric, keeping it more stable over long distances.
The Gold Dot bullet’s jacket and alloyed lead core remain virtually inseparable whether they’re penetrating a barrier or the target itself. As the bullet retains the weight it needs to enter deeply into its target, its soft point goes to work commencing wide, rapid, and highly uniform expansion.
Speer’s rugged, expanding Gold Dot bullet is seated in a nickel-plated brass case. Nickel doesn’t just reduce friction to aid in reliable feeding and extraction – it also resists corrosion that could gradually impact performance. Speer polishes off their Gold Dot round with a sensitive CCI primer and clean burning propellant, all to create one of the best choices for personal protection with an AR-15.
