A: Thanks for reaching out Mark! Interesting that you don’t like the Hornady Superformance ammo’s performance. That stuff is designed to amplify a rifle’s muzzle velocity by up to 200 fps without any accompanying negatives – muzzle blast, recoil and so on. But every rifle, as you’re probably aware, has ammo that it likes and doesn’t like.
As to whether you’ll like Speer Gold Dot ammo, this round’s bullet weight certainly falls within the optimal range for a 1:8 twist barrel (62-77gr, which you seem like you already know). This round’s bullet is certainly better for self-defense than an OTM. The OTM’s long-range accuracy is certainly going to be superior, but the Gold Dot SP’s electrochemically bonded jacket gives it an advantage in terms of barrier penetration and terminal weight retention. Its 0.400 G1 BC doesn’t make its long-range accuracy all that shabby, either. I’m a great fan of Gold Dot myself, and would only think to use it or Federal HST ammo in my everyday carry firearms.
This ammo’s not designed to maximize muzzle velocity like the Superformance loads, so I’d assume your rifle couldn’t take issue with it for that reason. Ultimately, I can’t imagine a reason your rifle wouldn’t fire this particular ammo perfectly – with the caveat that you can never really say without a hands-on test run. If I may, I’d recommend you test a box or two before you commit to the whole case. We’ve currently got 20-round boxes in stock if you’re interested in doing just that:

I hope my opinion helped you somewhat. Please let me know if I can tell you anything else!
