Laymen often mistake the hollow point boat tail for a hunting bullet, but its nose cavity does not in fact serve a purpose following impact. The HPBT’s lead core was poured into its fully formed and exceedingly concentric copper jacket at the factory to ensure total uniformity of weight distribution. Its boat tail enables the HPBT to conserve greater momentum while simultaneously resisting wind deflection.
This round’s bullet is very heavy at 75 grains. Its muzzle velocity is lower as the result, but the heavyweight bullet’s superior inertia grants it even greater protection against wind drift. When fired from a 24” barrel, the bullet’s 0.355 G1 BC (0.179 G7 BC) ensures that it will remain supersonic and rotationally stable until approximately 838 yards. (A 1:8” or 1:7” rate of twist is typically advised for so heavy a bullet.)
