This is exceptionally handy ammunition if you want to train with 5.56x45 M855, but frequent a range that prohibits “magnetic” ammo. That’s because Winchester loads this 223 Rem cartridge with a 62 grain projectile: same weight as the “penetrator,” but without any steel that could land you in trouble at the range.

This round’s 62 grain bullet is a conventional FMJ. In addition to its 100% lead core, it features a hard copper-alloy jacket with a mid-body cannelure that wards off setback under recoil. The FMJ’s 3,100 fps muzzle velocity ought to ensure that it drops around -7.4” 100 yards downrange of a 200-yard zero. The FMJ’s going to leave a mark wherever it hits, but terminal expansion is not included in its bag of tricks.

Winchester’s all-American ammunition is loaded with new, reloadable and reliable brass cases, as well as surefire Boxer primers that won’t corrode your firearm. Remember to use a barrel with 1:8–1:10” rate of twist if you want the best accuracy (a barrel twist that falls outside of that range is still perfectly acceptable).
