A: Thanks for reaching out Cory! This round's bullet is specifically optimized for varmint hunting. It's designed to begin violently expanding and fragmenting the instant it plunges into soft tissue, so it's not well equipped to penetrate a human-sized threat very deeply. While I certainly wouldn't volunteer to get shot with a bullet like that, you really would be better off with a soft point bullet that can expand and penetrate deeply when you're talking about quickly neutralizing a fully clothed 250+ pound threat.
We haven't got a lot of specialized self-defense 223 in stock right now, but Federal Fusion, which is designed for deer hunting, would certainly do the job well:
