The V-MAX would be a great pick if all you care about is precision. Its tip is more streamlined than that of any FMJ, and its Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket is way more concentric to boot. Its low drag and high rotational stability both keep the V-MAX squarely trained on its target. On impact, the tip slides down the swaged lead core’s precision-formed cavity. When it connects with the bottom, it causes the core and thin jacket to burst apart and send shrapnel flying every which way. The V-MAX consistently demonstrates its full potential at velocities as low as 1,600 fps, too.
Hornady didn’t just design and create this ammo’s 55 grain bullets. They also carefully loaded them with all the tools they need for success. Strong polished brass cases. Sensitive noncorrosive Boxer primers. Propellant charges that push the bullets to a right reliable 3,240 fps muzzle velocity out of a 24” barrel. The round’s 0.255 G1 BC means its bullet will hit 500 yards at a rate of 1,602 fps – still sufficient for terminal fragmentation!
