This 223 Rem cartridge is made by Fiocchi, one of Italy’s oldest ammunition manufacturers. They’re still headquartered in their boot-shaped country, but they manufacture the vast majority of the centerfire rifle ammo that they sell in America at their Ozark, Missouri production facility. There’s a 19 in 20 chance that it was there where this round’s freshly drawn and tapered brass casing, non-corrosive primer, and carefully formulated propellant were carefully pieced together.
This cartridge features a 55 grain projectile, so it will perform as you’re best accustomed to. It’s a pointed soft point projectile, the sharp meplat of which subtly but noticeably improves its accuracy. This bullet’s jacket prevents deformation during ignition and in flight, and further acts to control the expansion initiated by its soft tip. Its bullet’s great terminal performance makes this round a fine choice for taking larger varmints such as coyote and bobcat, although we can’t imagine it would prove inadequate were you to engage it for personal protection as well.
