This American Gunner series cartridge gives you the 55 grain bullet weight you’re probably already accustomed to, assuming that you didn’t buy your first rifle last week. But the bullet is no ordinary FMJ. It is Hornady’s hollow point, which begins its life as a carefully standardized jacket that is subsequently filled with lead to create a nearly perfectly balanced core.
The HP bullet will not deliver significant terminal expansion within its target. Granted, its impact alone should prove sufficient to prematurely end any small game animal’s turn, but it is not fit for taking larger game. The bullet’s 3,240 fps muzzle velocity from a 24” barrel and 0.254 G1 ballistic coefficient imply that its trajectory to 200 yards should rise by just 1.5” (and that is assuming your rifle’s sights are 1.5” high as well).
Hornady’s top-quality primers and powder both do their parts to cement superior accuracy, as do their first-run reloadable brass cases. A great way to get a leg up when you’re just trying to put bullets exactly where you want them!
