And you couldn’t have chosen better ammo to do it with. Hornady’s American Gunner 223 Rem is the real stuff: all American-made components, expertly loaded and inspected to ensure tirelessly smooth functionality in all makes, models and styles of 5.56/223 rifles.
This cartridge is loaded with the hollow point. Now, right away, get any ideas about terminal expansion out of your mind. The HP will kill a varmint no issue, but it will not undergo terminal expansion like you’d want for anchoring a buck or other medium-size critter. The HP only has a nose cavity because Hornady injected liquid lead into its copper-alloy jacket – the reason why its rotational stability is a little better than an FMJ’s.
Hornady recorded this round’s 3,240 fps muzzle velocity with a 24” barrel. Its 55 grain bullet defeats frontal air resistance efficiently enough to attain a 0.254 G1 BC – the reason why it coasts along a flat trajectory which climaxes at 1.5” before reaching a 200-yard zero (assuming the rifle’s sights are also 1.5” high).
This ammo is absolutely reloadable. Reload it and see for yourself!
