The bullet’s jacket is made of copper alloy, which is hard enough to prevent deformation during feeding and ignition, cannelured to secure seating within the case mouth, and entirely nonmagnetic. The FMJBT’s boat tail increases its ballistic coefficient, which is simply to say it helps the bullet maintain a flatter trajectory throughout the 223’s effective range.
