Hornady didn’t load this ammo at their Nebraska factory. It was made for Hornady by the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant of Independence, Missouri – the same outfit that produces over 1 billion rounds of small arms ammo for the government and the commercial market each year.
You can tell Lake City made this ammo as soon as you see its new, reloadable brass cases. They’re dark around their shoulders: proof that they were properly heat-treated, which promotes more efficient sealing of the chamber upon ignition. All 223 Rem cases should be annealed in this fashion. Lake City just doesn’t polish out the discoloration, because they want the Army to see that they’re doing their job correctly.
This round’s 55 grain full metal jacket bullet and 3,240 fps muzzle velocity (out of a 24” barrel) mean it is effectively loaded to our military’s M193 specifications (although it must be noted that M193 can't be 223 by definition). Zero in at 200 yards (through 1.5” high sights) and drop at 300 yards will be roughly -7.2”.
This ammo’s Boxer primers aren’t corrosive. No corrosion for you when you fire this ammo!
