Your AR-15 is your baby, and you’ve got to take care of your baby. Clean it with top shelf oils, store it where humidity can’t pit its steel, and above all keep it well fed. Fail to do any of those things and a social worker with Rifle Protective Services might come to take your baby away.

This box of 223 Rem ammo by Hornady Frontier will make a satisfying meal for your baby. It’s built to M193 specifications, with a 55 grain full metal jacket bullet that’s loaded to a 3,240 fps muzzle velocity (out of a 24 inch barrel). Hornady’s bullet is free of steel and accordingly nonmagnetic, perfect for firing indoors and out. And while this FMJ bullet may not deliver terminal expansion, it would be ludicrous to suggest it couldn’t handle a varmint or human-sized threat decisively. You’re looking at over 550 ft lbs of energy at 300 yards, for Pete’s sake!

Take a look at this round’s brass case – it’s a dead giveaway that Lake City manufactured it for Hornady. The discoloration around the case’s neck is far from some manufacturing defect. It’s visible evidence the U.S. Armed Forces’ largest small arms ammo supplier properly heat-treated the brass to keep it nice and supple, guaranteeing cleaner ignition in addition to its suitability for reloading. This round’s Boxer primer is non-corrosive and crimped. Its propellant is military grade, clean burning and consistently loaded to deliver satisfyingly consistent results with every shot.

We have one criticism about this fine range ammo: At 50 rounds to a box, it disappears way too soon!
