The Black Bear brand is Barnaul's latest entry into the realm of low-cost ammunition intended to help shooters extend their range time and practice sessions. As such, each of these .223 Remington rounds is assembled using a non-corrosive Berdan primer fitted to a polymer-coated steel casing. While the steel material is non-reloadable, it is inexpensive and allows customers to get more bang for their buck. The polymer coating helps to protect the steel cases from rust in storage and also reduces wear on small parts like extractors and ejectors.

This load is topped off with a 55-grain full metal jacket (FMJ) projectile which, unlike previous iterations from the same manufacturer, uses brass to encapsulate the lead core. Yep, that's right, finally a non-bimetal jacket from the makers of Brown Bear ammo. At 55 grains, these rounds will match the ballistics of common hunting, training, and self-defense loads for repeatable ballistics, uniform recoil, and consistent sighting. Barnaul ammunition is manufactured in Russia using machinery that has been trusted to supply European sporting endeavors since the 1940s.
