This 22 LR ammunition by Eley of Great Britain is designed for a very specific yet equally important application: benchrest accuracy out of semi-automatic firearms. (To be certain, the “Outlaw” part of its name highlights how the round breaks all the rules of 22 LR accuracy. Like all other ammo on the market, it is not intended for use by actual outlaws.)

This match accurate cartridge features Eley’s own 42 grain lead round nose projectile. Its rounded ogive profile helps guide the bullet from magazine to chamber without hesitation. The bullet’s knurled body is lightly coated with EP2723 lubricant, a temperature stable lithium complex based grease that promotes even surer feeding in semi-automatic pistols and rifles.

This round’s heavy bullet produces a subsonic muzzle velocity (Eley reports a muzzle velocity between 1,040 and 1,090 fps; we have posted the average between those two numbers). That prevents the bullet from losing in-flight stability as the result of transitioning from super- to subsonic velocity.

The case’s specially cut mouth provides optimal seating depth and gives way evenly during ignition, and Eley’s rimfire primers are famously reliable. (You will notice that this ammo’s primers produce a distinctive smell upon ignition. That’s simply the hard acrylic emulsion Eley uses to lock their primers in place.)
