Eley was founded in Great Britain all the way back in 1828. They made a reputation for themselves early on with their patented “wire cartridge,” a sort of shotshell designed to keep its shot more densely patterned out of the muzzle. They proceeded to innovate the pinfire shotshell, another now obsolete ammo technology, and from there became one of the most influential ammo manufacturers in the world.

Today, Eley is one of the foremost authorities on rimfire primed ammunition. Several competitive 22 LR shooters insist on only firing Eley, and indeed their premium cartridges act like laser beams in response to the drop of a firing pin.
