This shell throws a 275 grain monolithic (i.e. copper alloy) sabot slug. That’s right, a sabot slug: strictly intended for rifled bore shotguns. The slug is almost preternaturally accurate thanks to its high-grade plastic sabot, perfectly balanced and smooth CNC machined body, and sleek low-drag tip. A 0.171 G1 ballistic coefficient is very high for a 5/8 oz. slug, and the reason why Freight Train Copper shells can print 4” groups at 200 yards.
Copper isn’t just a nontoxic metal. It is also a highly ductile one, which is why it can penetrate body tissue without losing very much of its weight to fragmentation. That’s the key to the slug’s deep penetration. The key to its wide expansion is an externally notched nose cavity seating a hard polymer tip!
