Sabot Slug
We got lead-free 20 Gauge hunting ammunition! It is sabot slug ammunition, which means it is only good for rifled bore shotguns. Only got a smoothbore shotgun? Then it’s simple: Don’t buy Federal Freight Train Copper!
This shell is loaded with a 275 grain (5/8 ounce) solid copper polymer tipped sabot slug. The monolithic projectile is harder than lead, but the deep skives (i.e. cuts) surrounding its nose cavity allow it to flare out long petals as it pierces flesh. It is also extremely aerodynamic. The sabot is designed to neatly align with the bore line, which gives the slug the clean push it needs in order to showcase the effects of its polymer tip and sleek side profile.
In addition to better accuracy (4” groups at 200 yards!), the slug’s low-drag performance promotes higher striking energy. By Federal’s measure, the 0.171 G1 BC slug pumps 1,235 ft lbs kinetic energy into a 75-yard target. If that doesn’t kill a deer or a hog, then you should’ve aimed better.
