Barnes: the name American hunters know and trust for all their copper hunting bullet needs. But Utah’s 90-year-old ammo manufacturer knows how to put lead to good use for home defense applications as well. That’s what Defense Buckshot series 20 Gauge ammo is all about!
This is a standard length 2-3/4” load, packed with 17 pellets of #3 buckshot. Those are 1/4” diameter lead balls, totaling approximately 0.9 ounces in weight. #3 buck is smaller and lighter than 00 buck, the shot pellet more commonly used for law enforcement and personal protection. But this 20 Gauge shell deals out more than ample power for self-defense: over 1,000 ft lbs of kinetic energy counting all of its #3 buck pellets together, which is right on par with Dirty Harry’s 44 Magnum.
Smaller shot pellets have two great advantages. They are less likely to pass through the target or multiple layers of wallboard, which in turn decreases the risk of jeopardizing an innocent bystander.
