The jacketed hollow point works on the same principle as most self-defense handgun rounds’ bullets: as soon as its little nose cavity gets packed full of soft tissue, it forces the whole JHP to mushroom. There will probably be some fragmentation at closer ranges, which only makes matters worse for the critter.
