This Fiocchi Golden Waterfowl 12 Gauge shotshell is filled with 1-3/8 ounces of #4 bismuth shot. Bismuth is not as dense as lead: 9.78 g/cc, versus 11.34 g/cc. That said, bismuth is significantly denser than steel, which has a density around 8 g/cc. Because a bismuth shot pellet weighs more than a steel pellet of the same size, it’s able to conserve much more momentum as it moves its way downrange. The pattern will exhibit a flatter overall trajectory. It will hit the mallard with more force, too.
This is a 3” magnum shell, chock full o’ clean-burning powder that propels a heavy barrage of shot to a peppery 1,450 fps muzzle velocity. The extra juice helps compensate for bismuth’s relatively lower density. Made in the great state of Missouri: the Show-Me State, as in “Show me the bismuth!”
