Gone are the days when men would aim blunderbusses at turkeys, cross their fingers, and then pull their triggers. The modern 12 Gauge turkey hunting shotshell is engineered to deliver accuracy befitting of a rifle – not to mention one heckuva punch on impact. That is the promise behind Remington’s Premier Magnum Turkey High Velocity line of ammo!

This shell holds a massive charge of shot. At 3” it is voluminous enough to store about 236 little 0.130" diameter pellets of death. Instead of expensive tungsten or bismuth, the round’s shot is made of traditional hardened lead. Each pellet is encompassed by a thin layer of copper that achieves two purposes: prevention of deformation during ignition which weakens subsequent pattern density, and deeper penetration through the quarry.

This ammunition is loaded with Remington’s Power Piston wads. They compress during ignition to reduce felt recoil – a welcome feature, because a 4-1/4 dram equivalent magnum load does not kick softly. The Power Piston also creates a positive seal within the barrel to promote more efficient ignition. The reloadable shells’ powder charges combust cleanly to produce a steady 1,300 fps muzzle velocity. That gives the turkey load a muzzle energy of approximately 2,873 ft lbs – right on par with the hallowed 308 Win itself!
