The Germans were no strangers to Winchester by the Second World War. They had argued that the Model 1897 Trench Gun was so vicious a weapon that its use during the Great War violated the Hague Convention. America felt strongly otherwise, so the outraged Germans threatened to punish any American captured with a Trench Gun. They relented when we reminded them that we had prisoners of theirs, too.

We utilized plastic shotshells during the Second World War, but the M19 round with its full-length brass hull was issued as well. They are striking shells as the result, so finding a box of authentic ones is quite a trick nowadays. These commemorative shells look and shoot just like the real thing, and even have fiber wadding and card paper top discs for true authenticity. Winchester has put a special headstamp on each shell as well. You could shoot these, and you’d do the amount of damage that nine pellets of buck are capable of doing, but they make such a neat collectable in their wooden box that you might rather leave them in there.
