This Upland Steel shell by Federal Premium is loaded with #6 steel shot: one ounce of the stuff, which comes out to 315 individual 0.11” diameter pellets. That’s a larger size than the lead pellets most hunters would select for smaller upland game, but it makes sense when you consider that steel has a lower density. In addition to its bigger shot pellets, this shell compensates for steel’s lower density by accelerating it to a faster-than-average muzzle velocity: 1,375 fps, which keeps the pellets flying fast enough to do serious damage downrange. And because the shot column weighs only an ounce, its brisker MV won’t generate excessive recoil or chamber pressure.
Its steel shot aside, Upland Steel ammo is Federal’s usual fine work. You’ve got the primers you can count on when a bird is under your bead. You’ve got the clean-burning powder that doesn’t excessively foul a shotgun. You’ve got the full-length wads which keep hard lead from scratching up the bore. You’ve also got reloadable hulls. The complete package!
