Bismuth is far superior to steel when it comes to nontoxic shot. Steel is inexpensive, but with its density of only 8 g/cc it can have a hard time retaining enough downrange momentum to deliver a reliable kill shot. Thanks to its impressive density of 9.6 g/cc, bismuth performs nearly as well as lead for hunting waterfowl and upland game!

This 12 Gauge shotshell’s #4 bismuth shot is also significantly softer than steel. It still hits hard enough to penetrate deeply into its target, but it’s a great deal gentler on antique shotguns. Bismuth is also nonmagnetic – so much so, in fact, that a magnetic field actually repels it.

Federal has the machinery and techniques they need to produce bismuth shot that is every bit as spherical and tight patterning as their typical steel and lead pellets. The Minnesotan company’s FliteControl Flex wad has side vents to ensure clean separation from the shot column. The wad also erects fins up exiting the barrel for improved in-flight stability.

Federal Bismuth ammunition is safe for all shotguns. You’ll experience a little more recoil with this shell’s fast muzzle velocity and heavy shot column, but brother, will you ever have what it takes to bag any bird you draw a bead on!
