First things first: This is not military surplus ammunition. Winchester didn’t produce it for any branch of the Armed Services – not even the Space Force, would have found it incredibly useful during a Martian attack. With that said, Winchester does oversee production at the government's own Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, which means “Military Grade” isn’t remotely far from the truth.
This 12 Gauge shell takes care of business in one of the surest fashions possible. Ignition burns up a charge of clean-burning powder, which pushes a felt wad and nine pellets (around 1.1 ounces) of 00 buckshot out of the barrel at a velocity of 1,325 fps. If you counted all of the shot pellets as a single projectile, its muzzle energy would exceed 1,800 ft lbs.
This shell’s hard shot pellets aren’t the only reason why it patterns efficiently. The shot column also contains grex buffering: little flexible plastic beads that deform under the pressure of ignition so the shot pellets don’t have to. You’ve got your appropriately colored OD green hulls. You’ve got your rust-resistant anodized steel heads. You’ve also got sealed crimps for added water resistance. Good ammo for defense (including “defense” against whitetail deer).
