A: Hi Robert! I typically don't recommend bird hunting ammo for home defense. You could certainly neutralize a human-sized threat with this shell, no question, and its reduced chances of penetrating several layers of wallboard could prove beneficial if you live in a condo or townhome. That said, there are far better choices for home defense.
Cops typically use 00 buckshot in their line of work. 00 buck pellets are .33" in diameter as opposed to .14", so they are heavier to pack more energy and wider to create larger wound channels. Our selection is a bit limited at the moment owing to the ammo drought, but I'm glad I can offer you this 12 Gauge ammo by Fiocchi that's specifically designed for home defense: luckygunner.com/12-gauge-2-3-4-9-pellet-00-buckshot-fiocchi-25-rounds. This shell has 00 buck, and I've always been satisfied with Fiocchi's quality.
This 12 Gauge ammo is also appropriate for home defense: luckygunner.com/12-gauge-2-3-4-9-pellet-00-buckshot-black-aces-tactical-25-rounds. Black Aces is brand new to the ammo manufacturing scene, but they've been successful making shotguns and understand how they work.
