A: Most who keep a shotgun for home defense will usually consider the 00 Buckshot round for the defensive application. This should not automatically dismiss a target/birdshot etc. round as being effective in a defensive application at a closer range. When it comes to the final decision, it will usually come down to personal choice. I would consider this load for a target or hunting application.
If you have the opportunity to do so, with your gun, try shooting some unfolded grocery bags at a variety of distances with different rounds and determine which round you may prefer over another. If you are limited to an indoor range, this may not be possible to do on a regular basis. In the interest of safety and wear and tear, most indoor ranges will restrict rounds to slugs.
