A: Thanks for reaching out Blake! I contacted Mossberg because I haven't personally used your shotgun. They don't recommend this ammo for the 590M, but they did assure me that the Winchester USA VALOR 12 Gauge 00 buck ammo we currently have in stock would work well:

A: No sir! These don't qualify as extraordinarily powerful rounds and as such I wouldn't call them as high-brass.

A: Thanks for reaching out KJ! This ammo right here is without question powerful enough to put down any of those critters if they get a little too curious with you (assuming those are black bears and not grizz). Personally, I'd rather use buckshot for defense against aggressive animals. The penetration depth is going to be a little shallower, but I assume an encounter with a bear is going to be a pretty stressful situation. I'd rather have a wider shot pattern to compensate for any difficulties I might have aiming on a moving, threatening predator.
Here's all the 00 buck and rifled slug loads we have in stock: luckygunner.com/shotgun/12-gauge-ammo-shells?dir=desc&jacket_type=156%2C158&order=price
Like I say, Nobel Sport's Low Recoil loads are adequate, and that reduced recoil will help you line up more accurate follow-up shots – no sense in not emptying out the tube on an animal that means you immediate bodily harm. If you'd like to get a little more power at the expense of greater recoil, and still want something lower-priced, then the Black Aces Tactical 00 buck loads are a good bet – loaded to a muzzle velocity over 200 fps faster, so a lot more powerful. If you'd like to maybe fire slugs toward the front of your mag and double-aught loads in the back, then Remington Slugger Managed-Recoil shells are pretty good stuff. I've approved of their performance in my Win 1912, super accurate at 50 yards and impressively gentle on the shoulder.
I could go on all day. Please let me know if you've got any other questions!

A: Yes sir, absolutely! A low recoil shell means nothing to a pump-action, and this shell's length and projectile type are both perfectly compatible with the KSG.

A: Yes sir, this ammo is perfectly compatible with a smoothbore!

A: I'm sorry, I haven't! I imagine they like every other firearm and ammo producer are extremely busy at present, but I'll update you as soon as I hear back from them.

A: Hi Tim! I'm afraid we can't ship to California, even if it is to an FFL holder. I hope we can serve you one day.

A: I'm afraid NobelSport doesn't include the length of the test barrel they used to measure this shell's 1,200 fps muzzle velocity. I expect you should be alright with your setup, but please let me reach out to them and see if I can get a better answer for you!

By: Darrell Steed
A: Thanks for reaching out Darrell! We go over this subject in our post here: luckygunner.com/lounge/choosing-buckshot-home-defense-shotgun. Short answer is you want 00 buckshot for the most effective home defense, and as awesome as Federal FliteControl is I'd advise you get whatever 00 buck loads you can find during this "ammo drought."
We currently have four in stock: luckygunner.com/shotgun/12-gauge-ammo-shells?jacket_type=156. Nobel Sport's low recoil ammo is great for home defense because it reduces the kind of kick that makes it harder to fire in rapid succession, but Fiocchi's ammo is also pretty good. Truth is you'll be well equipped with any of these 00 buck shells in your shotgun.

A: Thanks for reaching out! This shell is low-recoil, but it still has about 484 grains of buckshot and a muzzle velocity of 1,200 fps. I wish I could make you a guarantee, but I'm nearly certain this ammo should generate enough oomph to cycle your semi-auto correctly.
